Blogging Tips
Don will be targeting specific keywords on blogging assignments.
Here are some pointers that need to be considered when strategically blogging:
- The keyword (or keyphrase) is the title of the post (not a variation of it)
- As a general guide, a blog post should be around 200-300 words. Could be more or less, but this is a guide. Do not use your keyword more that 2 times in your post. This is called “keyword stuffing” and it can hurt your site’s positioning. Your post should look and sound natural.
- The keyword should be included in the body of the post, preferably in the first sentence and as close to the left as possible. We want to convince the search engines that this article is about and only about the keyword/phrase we are targeting. This will help us to get indexed for that keyword.
- Never use an “Uncategorized” category. It’s best to have the keyword in the category. The article should be relevant to the category. In most cases there is no need for multiple categories. That’s what tags are for.
- Be sure to assign tags to the post and make sure the keyword/phrase is one of those tags (exactly as stated). There’s no need to do gobs of tags, because in most cases the post is about one topic. It’s best to keep the article focused on the topic.
- Google loves multimedia! I don’t even want to go into how much they paid for YouTube
. Add a picture or a video if you have them. Make sure you use your keyword as the title of the picture when inserting it. This is another opportunity to let the search engines know that your article is about the keyword/phrase. - IMPORTANT: Don’t add links to other sites or other posts unless specifically asked to. All links need to be placed according to a plan.
Don is building a large matrix for our websites and needs to be notified of every article and blog post that is published. Please email him the url link for the article when it’s published so he can add it to the map.
